Reflections on this day
How are you doing today, two years later? When I woke up today it hadn't occured to me yet that this is the day that it is. September 11. A day of infamy. We all remember what we were doing that morning in 2001, and what happened next. I got in a car accident because I was so flipped out listening to the radio. Many of us were glued to CNN for days afterward.
Nobody will ever forget what happened, but in most ways life is normal for me now. But I do think more about global politics and US foreign policy. Bush declared war on anyone who is not "with us". He later declared Iraq a "battle" in a bigger war. We have killed more than 30,000 people in that country and from all accounts it looks like a huge mess. And lets not forget Afgahnistan. We have spent nearly $80 billion dollars on these two "battles" and now Bush is asking for $87 billion more. The US has lost 2.5 million jobs and our deficits took a nearly $600 billion surplus in turned it into a $400 billion debt - that's $1,000,000,000,000.00. But I got my $400 tax break. That's eight whole months of cable TV.
From a great tragedy a leader will find opportunity to do great good. A few dozen people did a very bad thing, a reprehinsible and haneous act against humanity. But we are the wealthiest, most powerful nation on earth. How did we respond and rise to this opportunity? Is war the answer? Will war make the world a better place? Some bad people came up to us and gave us a bloody nose. And we lashed out with extreme violence. Its time to turn the other cheek.
Take some time out today to do something nice for yourself or another person today. Tell someone you love them.
