NYC

Just got back from NYC. I took the Acela train down there and back, which is a dream. I am on vacation between jobs so I decided to visit Manhattan for 5 days. I have a bunch of good friends down there, including DJ Benny Blanco. Benny invited me out for a set that he mixed using Traktor.. he is just transitioning to this new system. One of the coolest things that he told me about was Final Scratch. This is a system that I find fascinating for its blend of old and new technology. The biggest win in Benny's opinion is the ability to control his own music and mixes from vinyl. Maybe by the next time I see him he'll be mixing this way. Other highlights of the trip

Walking over Brooklyn Bridge - there are security guards there now

Attending a reading of my friend Diana Son's new play

The Apple Store in Soho

Wandering aimlessly in Greenwich Village, China town and all over

The top of the Empire State Building

Its so awesome that Manhattan is only 3.5 hours by train. But the fast train should be faster. Its only 200 miles. Lets get it down to 1.5 hours or so. Should be possible today. I hate all the continual comparisons between this country and Europe, but seriously, lets do something right over here and build a real fast train between DC <-> NYC <-> Boston.
