Why handhelds?

The Fast Company blog points to this article on why handhelds haven't really taken off. I have to say that I once had a lot of enthusiasm for this space but that it waned. I had a PocketPC and used it for a few weeks, but never really found it all that useful. This might be because I always had my Thinkpad and cell phone around. It also seemed clunky and the batteries kept dying on me too soon. I also recently bought a small day planner (paper version) and find this much more useful than the PDA calendar! Other small devices are a great part of my digital lifestyle, such as my new iPod. But I still can't find a good reason to buy a new PDA. The new Treo 600 looks intriguing though. I still have faith that we'll come up with something compelling before too long...
